How do I store my passport for expire reminders?

Go to Settings → Travel documents and add

  • Your passport number (optional).
  • The expiry date is required — it's what powers the expiration warnings.

If you do add it, it's stored encrypted and never shown back in full without an extra identity check.

You can store other document numbers here too, like visas or Global Entry.

Why don't we store your full passport or driver's license?

To keep your identity safe, Trips IQ only stores what is necessary for trip planning—like your document's expiration date to send you renewal reminders. We intentionally do not store full government ID cards, passport images, or unmasked document numbers.

We recommend using your device's native Wallet instead

For securely storing and presenting your physical identity documents, we strongly recommend using official digital wallet solutions like Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

These platforms are specifically architected for high-security identity management:

  • Hardware-Bound Security: Native wallets lock your identity credentials inside isolated hardware security chips (Secure Enclave / Secure Element) on your device. The private cryptographic keys never touch cloud servers or third-party databases.
  • ISO-Standard Encryption: They operate under strict international standards (ISO/IEC 18013-5) with direct cryptographic verification from government issuing authorities, protecting against forgery or cloning.
  • Rigorous Government Audits: Operating systems must complete exhaustive security evaluations by state DMVs, the TSA, and federal security agencies—including FIPS-compliant cryptography—to officially hold state IDs and passports.
  • Selective Data Sharing: Native wallets allow you to present verified proof (e.g., verifying age at TSA or checkpoints) without exposing unnecessary personal details like your exact street address.

By leaving identity credential storage to certified hardware-backed wallets, we ensure your most sensitive personal documents stay where they belong: encrypted on your device and under your direct control.
